An easy relativly flat trail that will eventually bring you to and along the lake shore for a liesure walk and stroll. The lake is a bit low (water level) due to the control, of Fontana damn. The trail is wide in most parts and never really narrows to a single file.
We were told about this place from some locals as a must see in Bryson City and they were right . It was absolutely beautiful with the fall leaves changing and being able to be in nature to breathe in the fresh air. The trails are easy for the non experienced hikers.
Real pretty road to somewhere. Not necessarily nowhere.
Decades ago, the federal government made a deal with local residents to build a road from Bryson City to their ancestral lands, where much of their family members were buried. This took place after the people were made to leave the area so that the Great Smoky Mountains National Park could be formed. The work on the road began, and quickly ended, with the government not upholding its end of the bargain. Today, that road is officially named Lakeview Drive. To the residents of this area, however, it's known as "The Road to Nowhere." The road ends at a tunnel, where Lakeshore Trail begins. From there, you must leave the safety of your vehicle and venture into the wilderness. It's not as scary as it initially appears. Enjoy miles of beautiful trees, streams and vistas not frequented by many.
Wow! This place is beautiful, The Road to Nowhere is so interesting and we saw a black bear cub on the trail!
